This is not just travel β itβs a way of experiencing North Kerala with all your senses.
Ride through lesser-known roads, walk into villages, taste local flavours at roadside stalls and homestays, and witness traditions that still shape everyday life. Our journeys are built around connection β to the land, the people, and the stories that make Malabar what it is.
In 2019, Pratish chose to leave behind a corporate career and return home to Kannur β drawn by a desire to reconnect with its people, culture, and way of life.
WeTheExplorers grew from that journey. It is an effort to open up North Kerala in a way that feels real β where travelers donβt just visit, but engage with its traditions, food, and communities, helping keep them alive through shared experiences.
Theyyam is an ancient, living ritualistic art form native to the Malabar region of North Kerala, predominantly seen in the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod. Unlike standard temple festivals, Theyyam incorporates tribal, animistic traditions where the performers themselves are believed to embody the divine.
The Theyyam calendar typically begins in late October (the Malayalam month of Thulam) and concludes in May/June. Planning a trip to Kerala during these months allows travelers to witness hundreds of unique manifestations, from the fiery Pottan Theyyam to the towering Muchilot Bhagavathi, in rural kavus (sacred groves) and ancestral homes.
